Democrats missed an opportunity to introduce reforms
A MEETING of the Democratic Party executive held to debate the reform proposed by the deputy party leader Alongkorn Ponlaboot preceded by large and dramatic opening , which saw Alongkorn be the first to detect the weakness of his party and recognizes the need to address a series of defeats in the past election .He said it is futile to blame the loss on election vote buying, because there are other factors involved.
The Democrats have been known for being good at talking and playing politics, but the lack of significant achievement . They are haunted by criticism of being " all talk , no action " .
In terms of popularity, they have fallen way behind their chief rivals , whether those who have come under the banner of the Thai Rak Thai , People Power or Pheu Thai .
Democratic Action , however , they do not seem to realize their mistake . Because they are now politically oppressed , they have chosen to rely on the political game rather than a civilized struggle .
They were projecting an image that does not fit in and outside Parliament .
It is time for them to reflect on past mistakes. At this time , the government has no achievements to boast about , but the main opposition party can not affect the coalition.
Opposition should think hard about why it has failed to take advantage of the administrative error , such as price increases, fuel costs , petrol prices and escape deficit produced by the rice pledging scheme .
Other drawbacks include the performance of government that seems substandard to the Prime Minister and the first - car scheme , which failed to get the desired amount of buyers.
The phenomenon of weak government and unpopular opposition seems to reflect people's frustration .
The people who seem to lose hope in the Democrats. Although they are disappointed with the government , they appear to choose the ruling party to the opposition.
The Democrats have no one but themselves to blame for failing to offer a viable alternative to the people .
Alongkorn has stepped forward to advance the reform plan for the party. He also threatened to quit the party if the reforms failed to take off.
Finally , executives Democrats do not take bold and decisive steps toward reform. They can only agree with minimal changes , and as a result failed to distribute the party.
Democrats executive board remains under the control of the party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva . A handful of key figures continue to take care of the Advisory Council of the party.
The leader of the party has ended given more power to nominate his deputy .
Executive board meeting adjourned as usual , with no major changes on the horizon .
Alongkorn has no choice but to accept the party's decision to maintain the status quo .
Democratic transformation dawn still far-fetched dream .
